AYUSH & SMPB PROGRAMME

AYUSH in Mizoram is a sunrise sector, since its inception in 2001 in Mizoram and following the guidelines of Department of AYUSH, Government of India, it’s developed by leap and bounds, however due to lack of man-power, and lack of awareness implementation of the programme is yet to gets momentum.

 1. Objectives of the programme:: 

To promote Indian Systems of Medicines and Homeopathy, namely, Aryurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Sidhha and Homeopathy to the people as an alternative health care, as well as mainstreaming these systems of medicine in the health care system of the nation.

Setting up of AYUSH Wing in District Allopathic Hospitals (Outdoor facilities of one or two systems of (AYUSH) and Drug Testing Laboratory (AYUSH) for testing of medicinal plants for which Mizoram is having rich resources.

Achievement during 2022-23

ACHIEVEMENTS  OF  NATIONAL  AYUSH  MISSION , DIRECTORATE  OF  AYUSH,  HEALTH &  FAMILY  WELFARE  DEPARTMENT

 

  1. Under the Ayushman Bharat, 38 (thirty eight) sub- centres have been upgraded to Ayush Health & Wellness Centres. These AHWCs are all functional and operationalised during 2022- 2023. Daily OPD is available where Ayush medicines are provided free of cost to the beneficiaries. The OPD footfall during 2022-23 in these AHWC is 45,852 (forty five thousand eight hundred fifty two). Yoga sesseions are conducted regularly in these AHWCs, under the guidance of Yoga instructors. 

 

  1. Yoga instructors are posted at District Hospitals, who conducted Yoga sessions for physical and mental health. 12,478 (twelve thousand four hundred seventy eight) people attended such sessions during 2022-23.

 

  1. Ayush OPD at different District Hospitals, CHCs, PHCs have daily OPDs, where Ayush medicines are provided free of cost to the patients. During the year 2022-23, OPD record of these Ayush OPDs is 1,00,628 (one lakh, six hundred twenty eight)

 

  1. Approval for construction of 1 (one) 50 (fifty) bedded Ayush Hospital at Aizawl and 1 (one) 10 (ten) bedded Ayush Hospital at Keifang, Saitual District was attained and process of construction is underway.

 

  1. Sports medicine under National Ayush Mission was implemented by signing partnership with Aizawl Football Club and Mizoram Basketball Association. Awareness on Ayush and its benefits for sportpersons were held and disseminate through IEC materials in meetings and tournaments. Ayush Doctors were also deployed in various tournaments organized by Aizawl Football Club and Mizoram Basketball Association.

 

  1. Free health clinic was held in 8 (eight) villages in Mamit District namely Zawlnuam, Thinghlun, Sihthiang, Zamuang, Phuldungsei, Darlak, Nalzawl and K. Sarali, 2 (two) villages- Seling and Hmawngkawn in Aizawl District and 1 (one) village- Khawlian in Champhai District, where Ayush medicines were provided free of cost to all beneficiaries.

 

  1. Recruitment of 1 (one) post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centre was done.

Achievements and best practices of SMPB for the financial year 2022-2023:

 

1. Diversity studies and documentation of Medicinal Plants carried out at five districts of Mizoram.

2. Herbal gardens are being set up at all the 38 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers. 

3. Participation at Global AYUSH Investment and Innovation Summit 2022, Ahmadabad, Gujarat on 20th – 22nd April, 2022.

4. Programme on AYUSH AAPKE DWAR under Azadi ka amrit Mahotsav at DHS, MINECO Complex on 17th May, 2022.

5. Plantation drive on “World Environment Day” at Aizawl College campus Mualpui on 5th June, 2022.

6. Closing Function of “AYUSH AAPKE DWAR” at College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry at Selesih on 17th August, 2022.

7. Farmers meet organized at AROGYA Mela held on 20th October, 2022.

8. Successful Brain Storming Session conducted on 3rd November, 2022.

9.“AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON CONSERVATION AND CULTIVATION OF MEDICINAL PLANTS” in convergence with Department of Women and Child Development, Govt. Of Mizoram at Lawngtlai on 22nd November, 2022 and Siaha on 24th November, 2022.

10. Participation at The International Seminar on Medicinal Plants on 10th & 11th Dec. 2022 during the 9th World Ayurveda Congress at Kala Academy, Panjim, Goa.

11. Setting up of Medicinal plant nurseries for production of Quality Planting Materials (QPM) have been received from National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) and will soon to be established at Lengpui and North Vanlaiphai in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) under Central Sector Scheme on Conservation, Development and Sustainable management of Medicinal Plants.

12. Project proposal is underway for setting up of Herbal Garden of State Importance at Lungleng, Aizawl.

13. Approval of Project proposal entitled setting up of School Herbal Garden for 52 numbers of Schools covering four districts ie, Serchhip, Mamit, Kolasib and Aizawl District.

14. Cultivation of Homolomena aromatica and Cinnamomum verum at East Lungdar, Serchhip District under Shyama Prasad Mukherjee RuRban Mission (SPMRM).

15. Participation of SMPB at G20 Meeting during 1st – 3rd March, 2023, MZU.

16. Awareness Campaign on “Importance of Medicinal Plants” for Mizoram AYUSH Doctors’ Association on 7th March, 2023

17. Inaugurate of “Species specific Nation – wide Campaign on Winter cherry, (Indian Ginseng or Ashwagandha) (Withania somnifera) a health promoter in Mizoram” for the year of 2023-2024 on 24th March, 2023.

        And, also 1st Plantation Drive at Dept.of HAMP, MZU on 18th April, 2023.

18. Technical inputs provided by State Medicinal Plants Board in the Implementation of Cluster Farming of Black Cardamom (Amomum subulatum Roxb.) under SPMRM at East Lungdar RD Block during 6th June, 2023 to 9th June, 2023.

Achievement during 2021-22

CORE / ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENT UNDER NATIONAL AYUSH MISSION

   

(1).       Public Health Outreach Activities :            For solving community health problems and by improving health status of the population Free Health Camp /Clinic and awareness campaign was conducted at 11 districts(44 villages):

Free Medical Camp was organised at Childrens Home in every district,      Medicines are provided free of cost to entire patient who attend the free clinic.                     

 

(2).       School Health Programme :            The main focus of school health programme is to address the health needs of school going children both physical and mental through providing AYUSH services.

 

            School Health Programme was carried out at selected Govt. Middle school  in every 11 districts.

 

(3).       Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) / Information Education and Communication (IEC) :             Activities and achievements: -

           -Health check up of all inmates at Tawngtai Bethel Camping Centre,

Sakawrtuichhun.

           - Health check-up carried out twice every month since April 2nd 2019.

-Other health programmes related with case diagnosed and treated such as RNTCP & MSACS are partnered with for better management of cases.

           - Laboratory Technician is also brought in for cases that require confirmation through laboratory diagnostics. 

           - Enormous  support and huge positive feedback has been recieved for the services rendered under this programme. 

           - Physical & Stress Management Session was organised at Gilgal Half way Home.

           -Advertisement and documentary flim were given to local cable T.v's and newspaper, sponsorship were given to the NGO's, hoarding were posted at  PHC CHCs in order to promote and encourage AYUSH way of life and  and health care.

 

(4).       AYUSH Gram :          Under this activity, 5 villages  from Lunglei District and 4 villages under Aizawl District were selected for adoption and practice of AYUSH way of life. 

            Activities carried out under AYUSH Gram: -

            1. Construction of Public Urinal Place.                       

            2. Construction of Market Garbage Collection Centre.                      

            3. Conservation and Development of Medicinal Plants.

            4. Hypertension and diabetes screening was carried out at all the 9 villages

            5. Free Medical Clinic

            6. Awareness campaign on AYUSH way of living

 

 

 

(5).       Sports Medicine through AYUSH :            Under this activity, partnership is carried out with Mizoram Badminton Association wherein physical and stress management sessions are carried out various  Badminton grassroot training centres and on duty Doctors with AYUSH medicines are provided at major tournaments.

            As approved by the Executive Body, Mizoram AYUSH Society partnership is also being carried out with  Aizawl Football Club & Mizoram Basketball Association wherein several deliverables was made available.

 

 (7)       Health & Wellness Centre under AYUSHMAN BHARAT:

            In accordance with the rightful decision made by the Government of India, Ministry of AYUSH, National AYUSH Mission, Mizoram thirty Eight (38) Sub-Centres i.e.10% were selected across the 8 districts of Mizoram for upgradation to HWCs under the National AYUSH Mission. 

 24 (twenty four) nos. of Community Health Officer were recruited on October 2020 and Cascading training for CHO was completed. Deployment of manpower under H&WC at their posting place was done on March 2020. Infrastructure work & Branding is still under process. Another 14 units will be operationalise during 2022.

(8)        AYUSH Wellness Centres including Yoga & Naturopathy:        Under this activity, 20 nos. of Physical & Stress Management Instructors are deployed at every district hospitals and various Mizoram Police units. The functions of these instructors mainly aims at promotion of overall health and wellness and also aims at combating Non-communicable diseases through specific exercises.The services of these instructors are to be utilized at broader aspect in the Health and wellness centres developed under AYUSHMAN BHARAT.

 

Contribution of Directorate of   AYUSH, National Ayush Mission :

 

  • Since the onset of the first wave of the COVID- 19 Pandemic, more than 80 AYUSH Doctors have volunteered and efficiently performed their duties at different Quarantine Facilities, Screening Points, Sample Collection,Contact tracing, CCC, 4C etc.

 

  • AYUSH prophylaxis and immunity boosters such as Arsenicum Album and Chyawanprash, advocated by the Ministry of AYUSH for COVID- 19 Pandemic have been widely distributed throughout the state.

 

  • AYUSH advisory on COVID- 19, circulated by Ministry of AYUSH has been translated into local language and disseminated as widely as possible among the general public for awareness.

 

  • Fund amounting to more than Rs.99 lakhs have so far been utilized by the Directorate of AYUSH in the fight against COVID-19 for various purposes as follows:

 

  1. Equipments (PPE Full set, gloves, caps, masks etc.)
  2. Medicine (Homoeopathic & Ayurvedic)
  3. Honorarium for volunteers
  4. IEC materials
  5. Radio Wireless System
  6. Conveyence & Contingency

 

  • Medical Officers (AYUSH) posted at different District Hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and other Health Programmes have deligently cared for COVID- 19 patients, and administered AYUSH medicines such as Arsenicum album, Chyawanprash, Omeo Allergy, Omeo fever, AYUSH- 64, Samsamani Vati etc. with huge positive feedback from patients.

 

  • Integrated AYUSH Hospital, Thenzawl has been utilized as COVID Care Centre since the outbreak of COVID- 19 in Mizoram. Till date, a total of 115 patients were successfully treated with 100% recovery rate.

Achievements under AYUSH & SMPB 2016-2017

 

  • For the first of its kind in North East India, 50 bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Thenzawl has been inaugurated on 27th October 2016 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram and 59 nos. of manpower were newly recruited to different posts for the Integrated AYUSH Hospital.
  • AYUSH has now 20 OPDs functioning at different levels of the health tier system (DHs, CHCs & PHCs).Construction of AYUSH OPD buildings at Haulawng, Hnahthial, Thingsulthliah and Tlabung has been completed and are at the verge of being inaugurated.
  • The State has now a well functioning State Drugs Testing Laboratory for Quality Control of ASU&H Drugs at Zemabawk under the AYUSH department for which 12 nos. of manpower were also newly recruited.
  • Free Clinic/Health camp has been conducted at 8 villages during the year 2015-2016 at which medicines were distributed free of cost to the patients.
  • State level Seminar and Awareness Campaign on Yoga and Naturopathy were conducted several times.
  • It is encouraging to note thatAYUSH OPDs at different Government hospitals and health centres have attended to more than 60,000 patients within this year (2015-2016).
  • The State has now 62 AYUSH Doctors working under State Government (Regular – 11 nos.), National Health Mission (Contractual – 21 nos.), School Health / RBSK (Contractual – 23 nos.), National AYUSH Mission (Contractual – 7 nos.)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Achievements under State Medicinal Plants Board :

 

  • The State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB) under the National AYUSH Mission launch the 365 days campaign on medicinal plants and also sent 18 potential farmers at the launch of the National 365 days campaign on medicinal plants at Jaipur on20th – 21st August 2016.
  • Survey and preservation of Medicinal Plants throughout Mizoram is also being conducted by State Medicinal Plants Board in collaboration with Central YMA.

- 50 bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Thenzawl is completed and will be functioning shortly.

-Training And Review Meeting for all AYUSH Doctors is conducted every year.
