IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMME, MIZORAM

Introduction : The Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI) has two vital components, namely Immunization of pregnant women against Tetanus and immunization of children in their first year of life against the six EPI target diseases.
The immunization services are being provided through existing network of Hospitals, Main Centres, CHC, PHC, Sub Centres and Dispensaries. Besides, Pulse Polio Immunization of children under five years of age are given additional polio drop every eyar which resulted in decline of poliomyelitis in the State.

  • Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine was introduced in Routine Immunization in Mizoram since June 2021. This vaccine is used to protect infants, young children, and adults against disease caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae.        
  • 3rd dose of fIPV was introduced on 1st January 2023 in National Immunization Schedule as per advised from NTAGI which provide higher immunity for Polio virus type 2.

Covid-19 Vaccination (up to March 2022)

National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme was launched in the country on 16th January 2021. Healthcare workers were the first to received the vaccine which was followed by Frontline workers and Citizen in a phase manner.
